After-School Instructor

Job Summary: The Neighbors Link Family Center grounds its programming in the philosophy that parents are a child’s first teacher. We offer evidenced-informed programming in parent education, school readiness, after-school and summer academic support, and healthy family relationships. Neighbors Link is looking for a part-time, compassionate, patient and flexible Instructor who will work closely with first through fifth graders in our Learning Links after school program at the Mount Kisco Elementary School in Mount Kisco, NY. The After-School Instructor will work directly with an assigned group of approximately 15 students, to provide an innovative, enriching, safe and fun learning environment. The Instructor will act as a positive adult role model, coach and mentor. In this role, the Enrichment Educator will be responsible for overseeing and planning daily activities, preparing learning materials, and assisting students with homework assignments. They will also interact with parents and other staff members to support the academic and social emotional needs of each student. This position will report to the Learning Links Program Manager and runs during the academic school year (September through June from 2:30pm-5pm).


  • Monitor the needs and challenges of each student (and their family) in Learning Links at Mount Kisco Elementary School to ensure each child is receiving the support they need to succeed in school.
  • Identify children that need additional educational interventions and collaborate with the Program Manager to refer their parents/guardian to additional community resources.
  • Plan, prepare, and implement enrichment activities and materials that enhance students’ learning in math, literacy, social studies and science, as needed.
  • Provide activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem solving appropriate to the developmental levels and learning styles of each child.
  • Work with students to help them understand key concepts, especially those learned in the classroom and motivate them when they become frustrated by material they do not understand.
  • Provide students with positive and constructive feedback.
  • Teach skills to improve academic performance, including study strategies, note-taking skills and approaches to solving problems and answering test questions.
  • Recognize the relationship between social-emotional learning and academic performance and demonstrate an ability to teach the “whole child.”
  • Offer feedback on progress to students’ parents and teachers where appropriate.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of program space and ensure program supplies are well organized and in good condition.


  • Fluent English-Spanish bilingual is preferred, but not required
  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in teaching, early childhood education or similar field
  • At least one-year experience working as a tutor, teaching assistant, after school teacher or similar role
  • Ability to foster a fun and safe classroom environment conducive to learning
  • Strong knowledge of child behavior and learning patterns
  • Ability to work with children and remain friendly, calm and patient at all times
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to set rules and guidelines for children to follow
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain a tidy and neat classroom
  • Meet regularly with the program manager and other staff members to share best practices and address challenges
  • Assist with additional program needs, as assigned.
