Bilingual Paralegal Administrator

Neighbors Link provides innovative and impact driven programming to immigrant families and works to empower clients to successfully navigate community resources and to foster client leadership. Through the Neighbors Link Community Law Practice, Neighbors Link offers a variety of legal services for immigrant families.

Job Summary: We are seeking a temporary full-time Bilingual Paralegal Administrator to provide administrative support to our Community Law Practice staff. The ideal candidate will be interested in learning about all aspects of immigration law, community-based legal services and immigrant advocacy. This temporary position runs from June 1, 2017 to September 1, 2017 at our White Plains office near the Pace University law school campus and reports to the Manager of Legal Services. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be necessary.

Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Language Skills

  • Interpret Spanish to English at client meetings
  • Translate Spanish language documents into English
  • Interact with clients in a variety of settings (in person, telephone, Skype, Facetime)

Administrative Duties

  • Manage office calendar of client appointments, court dates and other events
  • Coordinate volunteer attorney and volunteer interpreter schedules
  • Maintain and purchase office supplies

Paralegal Duties

  • Draft and edit client statements
  • Conduct research in law, policy, human rights and country conditions, with a focus on Central America
  • Complete immigration forms and legal documents
  • Prepare and file legal documents by mail and by hand

Requirements:

  • Fluency in Spanish required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; will consider rising college juniors and seniors
  • Compelling interest in immigration law
  • Proficiency with MS Office software and familiarity with Google/Outlook Calendar
  • Attention to detail and strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A “can-do” attitude and commitment to the Neighbors Link mission
