"Learning Links" After-School Program at Neighbors Link
In the fall of 2007, Neighbors Link established "Learning Links" at the Mount Kisco Elementary School. "Learning Links" provides after-school tutorial and homework help, along with structured enrichment activities, to 40 at-risk children of low-income families. At the end of its first year, "Learning Links" received universal praise from local teachers, parents and administrators alike. Teacher surveys credit the program with improving students’ attitudes and confidence in the classroom, enhancing comprehension and successful completion of homework assignments, and dramatically increasing classroom participation.
This new program provides three teachers to help children with their homework and to allow them to take part in the after-school activities available to other students. Full-time classroom teachers surveyed report overwhelming improvement in school work and test scores for children participating in "Learning Links."
